Who is this course for?

This is a good course for you if you enjoy learning through practical work and if you are creative and want to work as a landscape gardener, in a nursery and garden centre, on the grounds of a formal estate or at a golf course or sporting organisation.

What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of some classroom sessions and lots of practical work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. You will learn about working safely, identifying plants, propagating plants, building structures and surfaces and establishing garden displays. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, and English and Maths.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 3 GCSEs Grade E or above
  • You should have a strong interest in working in the horticultural sector and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.

Further Education:
  • BTEC Diploma in Horticulture - Level 2

Are there any additional costs?

Learners will be required to purchase items of personal protective equipment (steel toe capped boots, overalls and wet weather gear) for use on the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
