This course is for you if you want a career in the Prison Service, Fire and Rescue Service, Paramedics, Security Services, Customs and Excise, the Armed Forces or the Police. The course is made up of core and specialist subject areas which are outlined below. The core units are:- Improving health and fitness for entry into uniformed public services
- Career planning / employment for the public services
- Public service skills
- Health and safety in the public services workplace
- Adventurous activities and teamwork for the public services
- Land navigation by map and compass
- Crime and its effects on society
- Community and cultural awareness
- Attending emergency incidents in public services
- Volunteering in public services
- Driving and the public services
- Expedition skills (which is completed on a residential visit and is a requirement of the course)
What qualifications do I need?
- 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, OR
- Level 1 qualification in a related subject
- Adequate standard of English and Maths
- Mature learners with other qualifications and/or experience are also welcomed
- You should have a strong interest in working in the public services and demonstrate a commitment to succeed
