If you are studying at Level 1 or 2 AND you meet the Eligible Benefit criteria tuition fees will be waived. (Registration Fees will still apply). If you are studying at Level 3 AND you meet the Eligible Benefit criteria AND are aged between 19 and 23, tuition fees will be waived. Tuition fees will not be waived for students aged over 23 studying a Level 3 or higher course, however these students may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.

Course Content: The course has been designed to provide a broad
introduction to the scope and nature of Psychology as a science.
The emphasis is on applying knowledge and understanding rather than
just acquiring knowledge, thereby developing students’ transferable
skills of analysis and evaluation.
The AS Year comprises of two modules. Module one looks at Cognitive
and Developmental Psychology with research methods in context.
Module two examines biological, social and individual
differences.
The focus is the application of Psychological Knowledge to
real-life. For example, eye witness testimony, stress management,
obedience and conformity, treating mental disorders.
The A2 Year examines topics in Psychology, for example, Aggression
and Biological rhythms and sleep. Then looks at Psychology in
action where one contemporary application of Psychology is
investigated in detail. The chosen area is anomalistic psychology
which examines theoretical and methodological issues underlying
anomalous experiences, such as psychic healing, out-of-body and
near death experience and psychic medium ship.
There is a large focus on developing an understanding and
application of the nature of science and scientific method. Entry
Qualification: A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE Level including
English, Maths and Science. Course Format: Classes are designed to
use varied strategies, for example, you will experiment on your
friends, make models, have debates, produce leaflets, use IT, Role
play and on occasions even sing! Be prepared for unusual activities
along with the more traditional ones.
You will have an unseen written test in class, approximately every
5 weeks, though your learning will be checked every lesson.
External assessment is through unseen examination in January and
summer of each year. Progression: Students who wish to progress
onto A2 Psychology must achieve a minimum of a D at AS Level.
