This programme is ideal for the school leaver who wants to embark on a career in horticulture. It contains a unique blend of core and craft skills to create an ideal introduction to the industry.

This programme is designed to enable students to acquire the basic skills with the necessary technical grounding for them to provide a useful contribution in their employment within the industry.
In order to reflect this aim the content includes:

- Establish and maintain plants outdoors

End Qualification:

NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

Normally 4 GCSEs at grade D or above (with at least one grade C from either science, English or mathematics). Progression is encouraged from Level 1 qualifications.

For some students an agreement will be reached to comply with an academic contract from the start of the course.

Assessment:

This programme is continually assessed by a combination of practical skills tests, projects and assignment work.

Progression from this course:

Students who successfully complete the programme may progress to a Extended Diploma or eventually a higher education qualification. Full-time employment with access to part-time further education at NVQ levels 2 and 3 are taken up by many successful students.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. Students will be expected to provide their own protective clothing.
