This course seeks to identify and analyse the problematic nature of the context of communications. It reinforces the need to place equal value on different means of communication. Where there is no meaningful communication educators have a greater obligation to work with individuals to create communication opportunities from which they can access the world around them.
During this course you will develop an understanding of the description and analysis of the social and medical model of disability; analyse different means of communication for people with motor disorders and other impairments, in particular people who do not use the spoken word; and analyse the significance of communication in accessing to the wider world.
On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a certificate of credit for 20 credits at Level HE7. In addition, you may use these credits towards one of the Masters in Education degrees offered by the University of Bolton.
