Overview

The University of Dundee, School of Law, is delighted to announce the creation of a joint Masters programme with the Law Faculty at the University of Cergy-Pontoise [UCP] in France.

The Joint Masters is an exciting new venture which brings together two dynamic and highly rated law schools.

Students will be taught through English by acknowledged experts and will gain an in depth knowledge of a wide range of contemporary commercial law subjects from both a common law and civil law perspective. Students enrolled on the dual qualifying LL.M. will graduate with a LL.M. in International Commercial Law from Dundee University and a LL.M.in Business and Taxation Law or Law & Business Ethics from UCP.

In the Times Good University Guide 2012 Dundee Law School was placed 7th in the United Kingdom law school rankings, and we were ranked 1st in Scotland in the 2011 National Student Survey (NSS).

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise Dundee Law School was one of only two law schools in the United Kingdom to achieve a 100% international standard classification, with half of our submissions being graded internationally excellent or world leading. Our commitment on is to provide high quality instruction, with a focus on matters of practical relevance, to prepare students for a successful legal career, whether at home or abroad.

Programme Structure

You will spend the autumn semester (September-December) in Dundee. After a week long induction session, you will select two modules from our International Commercial Law programme:

  • International Business Transactions
  • Problems in International Commercial Litigation
  • Company Law
  • Principles of International Contract Law
  • Principles of E-Commerce
  • Consumer Transactions

For the spring semester (January-May), you will go to Cergy-Pontoise, 30 minutes from the centre of Paris, and enrol in either the Business and Taxation Law Master or the Master in Law & Business Ethics. You must complete four modules, taught in English, including options in:

  • Antitrust & Competition Law
  • Business Law : Corporate, Finance, Distribution & Litigation
  • Real Estate & Property Investments
  • Corporate Governance
  • Intellectual Property

You will return to Dundee for the summer semester to complete a 15,000 word dissertation on a Comparative Commercial Law topic. You must submit your dissertation by mid-August.

The Joint Masters is a very challenging programme requiring students to adapt quickly to contrasting legal systems and modes of study. Applicants must have, or expect to receive in the anticipated year of entry, a good honours degree in law, of at least upper second class or equivalent.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5, with minimum of 6.0 in the writing component (or equivalent), if your first language is not English. Please check our Language Requirements page for details of equivalent grades from other test providers, and information about the University of Dundee English Language courses.
