Candidates will normally have successfully completed a
Foundation Degree in Practical Theology or equivalent (equating to
240 credits: 120 at Level 4 and 120 at Level 5). There will be an
induction day for candidates progressing from the Foundation Degree
to the BA (Hons) Top Up Programme/MA. This will include an
introduction to the necessary study and research skills for
successful work at NFQ 6 and 7.
As part of the selection procedure, all candidates will have been
subject to an enhanced CRB check.

Course summaryThe module provides an introduction to the study skills, including LIS input necessary to engage in the process of experiential or the action learning cycle in the context of the study of mission and public ministry in which the learner draws upon their own experience as the basis for critical theological reflection upon practice.
It offers an introduction to portfolio based learning and assessment as well as addressing the theology of mission and evangelism in the context of ministerial practice within local churches. Students will be expected to demonstrate familiarity with key texts and ministerial practice through their study and reflection.
By the end of this module, students will:- demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate the relationship between theory and practice in mission and evangelism
- demonstrate from a base of knowledge and understanding an ability to discriminate key issues relevant to their experience of mission and evangelism in a particular context
- demonstrate the ability to identify key resources and their appropriate use when communicating the gospel within a named context
- demonstrate a critical grasp of examples of different theological frameworks when engaging in and enabling the development of faith in other people
- demonstrate participation in and reflection on the mission of God, identifying and engaging critically in issues of mission and social justice in the context of ministry
- demonstrate a detailed knowledge, understanding of experience based learning in practical theology.
