People who work in general hospital or community settings often meet people accessing their services who also have a diagnosis of dementia. This can be problematic as practitioners often feel ill equipped to understand the needs of people with dementia and how they can best support them in relation to their care. Historically this has resulted in poor experience for people who have dementia and their families. This workshop can be attended alone though ideally it can be followed up with a second dementia CPD workshop which develops this work with a focus on more specific interventions and strategies.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will have:
- Developed their understanding of dementing illnesses and how they impact upon perception, behavior and relationships
- Engaged in critical reflection on current practice
- Identified potential solutions for common challenges in practice
