Our Access to HE courses can be studied within one academic year – up to 450 hours of classtime although some learners may be exempt from parts of the course if you already have GCSEs.How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on the assignments which are set regularly throughout the course. Some of these assignments will be completed under exam conditions but most will be completed in your own time.What will I study?
You will study:- Communications/English (Level 3)
- Science - Biology and/or Physics and/or Chemistry (Level 2 or 3)
- Maths (Level 2 or 3)
- Practical issues in teaching (this involves a work placement
- History
- Language study
- Literary study
- Psychology
- Sociology
- ICT
What does the course lead to?
This course offers a route into Teacher Training for adults who want to take a degree with Qualified Teacher Status or a PGCE after taking a degree in the chosen subject area. Courses include:- BA (Hons) with QTS (Primary or Secondary)
- Foundation Degree (higher level) Teaching Assistant
- BA (Hons) Education Studies
The college offers the following courses:
- Professional Diploma Teaching in the Lifelong Learning
Sector (DTLLS)
- Graduate Diploma Teaching in the Lifelong Learning
Sector (GDTLLS)
Entry requirements
- 3 GCSEs: Maths, English and Science at grade C or above
- 2 of the three is acceptable providing the 3rd is taken alongside Access
- Learners are advised that if they only have 2 they are taking a risk as several HEIs require all 3 to be achieved before application.
- Students for this Diploma must arrange a work placement in school of at least 21 days duration
How much does it cost?
The course fees include registration with CAVA (the awarding body). You may be eligible for remission of fees if you receive state benefits or if the Access course is your first Level 3 qualification.How do I apply?
