This course won't teach you to be an independent counsellor working outside of an agency's service framework. You would need the Level 5 Psychotherapeutic Counselling qualification to be an independent counsellor.
How long is the course?
This is a two year, part-time course. You will attend one evening per week (3-9pm) throughout the length of the course.How will I be assessed?
Assessment is via a candidate portfolio and an externally assessed audio tape and written paper.There is a requirement for personal therapy, which will be arranged and paid for by the student, and a minimum of 100 hours of formally contracted counselling with at least five different clients (in an agency setting), for a minimum of 100 hours over the two years.
Clinical supervision for the agency client work is required. Students are required to arrange their own placements.

What does the course lead to?
Upon the successful completion of this course, trainees will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service within the context of an agency's framework.You are required to have a year in practice after achieving the Level 4 Diploma to gain experience in the field. You may then progress onto the Psychotherapeutic Counselling Level 5 programme (PC-L5).
Entry requirements
You must have acquired CPCAB's Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CSK-L2) and CPCAB's Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3), or the APL and/or APEL equivalents.What can I do next?
