Stamp Duty Land Tax seemed, initially, to be a straightforward tax on property transactions. However, subsequent amendments to the legislation to combat avoidance and to cover specific types of transactions have resulted in a complex series of rules.
This course will explain the basic principles underlying the SDLT regime and consider practical examples of the application of those principles. The course will cover: The basic principles; Anti-avoidance; The administrative regime including interest and penalties; Exempt transactions and reliefs including corporate transaction relief; Partnerships; Leases.
