at the early age of 35, music lovers across the centuries have
puzzled over the many mysteries which surround the man. How did he
survive such a pressurised childhood, performing his compositions
before the crowned head of Europe, growing up in a society which
considered musicians to be servants and nothing more? Mozart broke
away to become one of the first free-lance composers of the 18th
century, but died before he could reap the rewards he deserved.

Who is the course for?
To enable students to appreciate the many facets of Mozart’s
life: childhood, adolescence, marriage, family and early death; how
this moulded Mozart.
To enable students to appreciate the influence of two cities on
Mozart’s development: his birthplace Salzburg and his later home of
Vienna.
To enable students to place the music of Mozart within the musical
developments of the 19th to the 21st centuries.
Who is the course for and what level is it?
This course is designed for those looking to develop their
creativity alongside others in the community. No previous knowledge
of music is required; all levels will be catered for in the time
available.
What is your approach?
The tutor will illustrate the content using recorded samples and
high quality slides (many taken by the tutor when working in
Salzburg and Vienna) sequences on videos/DVDs. Time will be allowed
throughout the day for questions, discussion and general
feedback.

What will I need?
You will have an opportunity to maintain an Individual Learning
Plan and your tutor will discuss your progress and achievement with
you throughout the course.
The tutor encourages the taking of class notes and is very willing
to mark the notebooks, if requested, before the end of the day.
What will I need for the first session?
Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil.
Please bring all cold drinks, snacks and lunch for the day.
There is a student lounge on the site where hot drinks can be
purchased.
