This course provides a sound understanding of central aspects of the study and production of history as a discipline, to encourage a broader interest in the subject. A key aim of history is to encourage students to develop a critical approach to history and a critical approach to their world - history is engaging and is an essential subject in which to expand ones mind and to understand the world in which we live.
Students will follow a lively programme which combines lectures and seminar work: small group work, independent work, discussion and debate, critical evaluation of source material, videos, ICT, case study work and using techniques that encourage you to engage with historical study.

AS level (year 1)
Module 1: Historical explanation
Unit F982 Russia in turmoil, 1900-1921
Module 2: Using historical evidence
Unit F983 Radicalism, popular politics and control, 1780-1880's
A2 level (year 2)
Module 1: Historical controversies
Unit F985 Different interpretations of British imperialism,
1850-1950
Module 2: Historical significance
Unit F987 Independent investigation (coursework)
End Qualification:

Year 2: A2 Level History
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
5 GCSEs including GCSE English Language at C or above (history GCSE is not essential, but preferable).
Assessment:
AS modules (year 1):
Unit F982: 1hr 30 min exam (25% AS)
Unit F983: 1hr 30 min exam (25% AS)
A2 modules (year 2)
Unit F985: 3hr open-book exam (30% A2)
Unit F987: Coursework (20% A2)

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials/resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. History books will be recommended for purchase and a small cost for module booklets.
