Childcare and Education Level 2 Diploma
Combine theoretical study with practical experience as you prepare for a career in childcare. The Childcare and Education Level 2 Diploma helps you to gain knowledge through observational studies, practical work with children and a range of classroom-based activities, which combine theoretical and practical training.
On this course you cover six mandatory units:

- the developing child
- safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children
- children and play
- communication and professional skills

The teaching team will select an optional unit too and you can gain
qualifications in first aid and functional skills.
Assessment is through written assignments and portfolios, which are
marked internally and moderated externally.
You also complete a multiple choice test which is marked
externally.
The diploma develops a range of professional skills including time management, teamwork and appropriate communication. It builds your self confidence too.
Applicants for a level 2 programme will normally have:
- at least four GCSEs at Grade D or above and/or a completed level
1 award
- GCSEs to include English and maths at grade D or above or level 1
functional skills qualifications
- the willingness to study for an additional qualification in
English and/or maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Successful completion can lead to further study at level 3, for example in children’s play, learning and development, or help you to secure a position in the workplace.
Your learning is split between the classroom and workplace. A total of 50% of the course consists of practical work in a supervised work placement.
