Description
This course is ideal for those with an interest in entering the Uniformed Services as a lifelong career path but may not yet have the entry criteria or fitness levels to apply for their chosen Uniformed Service. The course has been developed to give learners the opportunity to develop a range of expedition and personal skills and improve their own personal fitness levels.

The course consists both practical and written elements and is designed to raise awareness of the broad range of jobs available in the Police, Fire Service and Military. English, Maths, ICT and Personal Social Development as compulsory subjects to the programme. Example of subjects covered:

- Wellbeing and fitness and health for public service
- Public service careers
- Forensic detection
- Personal skills for the public services
- Map Reading and Expedition skills
- planning and participating in an event
Due to the practical nature of several of the units learners will be required to participate in exercise and fitness on a weekly basis. Outdoor expeditions are also included throughout this course and learners will get the opportunity to participate in a residential study visit which will involve camping and adventurous activities. Involvement in community projects and volunteering are also part of the course
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required. Each applicant must attend an interview and provide a satisfactory supporting reference. Entry will be by initial assessment to ensure every learner is directed onto the appropriate level of course .
Delivery & Assessment methods
Skills and knowledge are developed through a portfolio of case studies, projects and work related scenarios. Practical outdoor adventurous activities and regular fitness testing are a compulsory element to the course. Assessment is continual throughout the programme. Formal tests are conducted for English, Maths & ICT.
Progression
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services. BTEC Award in Fire and Rescue in the Community.
