What will I study?

By undertaking this unit, students will better understand aspects of the following:

1. Understand the effectiveness of own organisation in dealing with workplace stress and conflict

  • Management responsibilities in relation to work-related stress
  • Methods to manage stress at own place of work
  • Workplace risk assessments
  • Sources of support and techniques to counsel staff
  • Audit and review procedures for managing stress
  • Possible indicators of stress in the workplace such as staff turnover
  • Organisational policies and procedures on bullying and harassment
  • Health and safety legislation in the workplace

2. Improve the management of workplace stress and conflict in own area of responsibility

  • Identifying and dealing with workplace stress and conflict
  • Causes of conflict and interpersonal friction (including bullying and harassment) and ways to resolve them
  • Grievance and discipline procedures, including supporting records
  • Organisational employment policies such as time-keeping, absenteeism, conduct, level of performance, attitude and behaviour, gross misconduct
  • Awareness of legal aspects of disciplinary processes
  • Causes, symptoms and impacts of stress and the implications/effects of stress for individuals and organisations
  • Stress awareness training
  • Causes and effects of stress and implications for workplace and non-work activities and relationships

How will the course be delivered?

Classroom based sessions alongside other members of the group.

Course Entry Requirements

Candidates would normally have completed the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership & Management and/or be employed in a managerial role. An informal discussion with the Programme Leader is recommended to ensure that the qualification meets individual needs.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.
