IAB Level 1 Award in Computerised Book-keeping
General information
The IAB is the longest established professional body for book-keeping. It was formed in 1973, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards in book-keeping. It holds its examinations in over 90 countries throughout the world. This course is suited to those who have some knowledge or experience of finance and who may be looking for a career change. Candidates will learn the basics of business routines and from this foundation can go confidently on to Level 2. Double entry is not covered (see Level 2 Manual Book-keeping). The course is for 8 weeks and therefore candidates can quickly progress to their next challenge.

Course content
(1) Record Routine Book-keeping Transactions using a computerised system
- Enter and/or restore data using a Computerised Accounting Package.
- Record Customer and supplier invoices and credit notes.
- Process monies received.
- Process monies paid.
- Correct transaction errors.
- Carry out bank reconciliation.
- Produce reports using selection criteria and parameters.
(2) Prepare and record sales and purchase documents using a Computerised System.
- Enter and/or restore data using a Computerised Accounting Package.
- Prepare financial documents to be sent to credit customers.
- Record Supplier invoices and credit notes.
- Process monies paid to Suppliers.
- Process monies received from Customers.
- Maintain the petty cash account.
- Produce reports using selection criteria and parameters.
Teaching and assessment
This is an 7-8 week course. However to be successful you must be prepared to do some independent study. There is a 1.5 - 2 hour exam.

This course begins 16 April 2013 and September 2013. Classes run on Tuesday* evenings from 6pm to 9pm.(*subject to change)
