Engineering Higher Diploma

Minimum Age: 14 Maximum Age: 16 Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: Two days a week during school term time 9.00am to 3.00pm. Entry Requirements:

You will need to be on target to achieving a combined score of 15 or more in your English, Maths and Science Key Stage three assessment, have a very good record regarding behaviour and motivation, and above average attendance.

The Higher Diploma is designed to keep your options open and is worth seven GCSEs. It could lead to the Engineering Advanced Diploma, one of the other Advanced Diplomas available, another Level three course at the College or an Apprenticeship with an employer. During the programme you will also find out about the wide range of careers available within the engineering industry to help you plan for the future.

Course Description:

The Engineering Higher Diploma is an ideal course for you if you are interested in engineering and would like to explore your opportunities within this innovation-led industry. The Higher Diploma will develop your understanding of the engineering world, the different sectors, and how they impact our lives. You will learn about the key engineering principles in more detail, such as design, materials, electronic systems, maintenance and manufacturing. Throughout the Diploma, you will get lots of practical experience, with the chance to complete a student project and work in teams with your fellow students. You can choose to broaden your course by taking additional subjects that reflect your interests and ambitions. You will also be able to do at least ten days work experience, which is a great way to apply what you have learnt in a working environment.
