A Level English Language and Literature introduces students to a
range of literary texts from different time periods, social
attitudes and cultures. The course gives students the opportunity
to develop independent approaches, and to undertake paired and
group work. This develops critical understanding in analysing the
ways in which structure, form and language shape meaning and
evaluating the significance of contextual factors in a range of

A Level English Language and Literature introduces students to a

develop a lively interest in culture,creativity and language. What
will I Study? The course is assessed by two examinations at the end
of the year and a piece of independent study in the form of the
course work. How will I be Taught? You will be taught 4.5 hours in
the classroom a week split into two lessons. Learning is a
combination of teacher-led discussions and activities based on
student participation in the form of individual, paired and group
work. Students are encouraged to share ideas and concepts and ask
questions and explore their own opinions and views. How will I be
Assessed? Essay writing forms an essential part of the course and
students are required to have a high degree of language and
literature skills. With emphasise on critical and textual analysis
being developed throughout the year. Homework is set each lesson
and at the end of each half term mock exams. What our students say?
