interesting and thought provoking subjects 2. Being taught by a
passionate and enthusiastic subject specialist 3. Being taught at
an outstanding college 4. An opportunity to study a more unusual
historical topic 5. History is a fascinating subject What will I
Study? The units cover the first half of the 20th Century. Britain
1906-45 and Germany 1919-45. The British paper is an overview of
the changes Britain faced in this period and gives students the
opportunity to explore the reasons for change and its impact. The
German unit is unusual in that it gives students the chance to
discover what life was like for the German-Jewish community in this
period. This paper is an in-depth look at people's lives and the
impact of changing circumstances. Students will choose their area
of investigation from within the 100 year period. How will I be
Taught? Students will be taught with a variety of teaching and
learning activities such as, group work, paired and individual
study. Discussions and debates also play an important role plus
essay writing in class and for homework. For A2 there is greater
emphasis on deeper analysis and evaluation and students are
expected to read far more widely and access more challenging
material. How will I be Assessed? There will be ongoing assessment
throughout the year with homework tasks, timed essays in class,
mock exams in January. There will be two written examinations in
May. Essay writing forms an essential part of the course and
students should have a high degree of language and literacy skills.
