  • Giving employees an extensive range of knowledge and skills that are practical in nature; and
  • Enabling employees to reflect critically on housing policy and practice.

The course combines, therefore, theory and practice so that employees can apply the things they learn to benefit organisational practice. This serves to promote organisational commitments to best value with housing services being subject to continuous improvements.

Finally, and very importantly, the course prepares employees for further study and progression to courses at undergraduate level that assist employees aspiring to jobs in management roles.

What You Need:

The level 4 course is suitable for housing professionals who:

  • Hold an SQA qualifications in housing and/or social policy;
  • Hold a level 2 qualifications in housing with relevant housing experience;
  • Have housing experience and commitment to learning;
  • Are graduates who are seeking to obtain a relevant housing qualification;

£1000 per year (Total course fee £2000 inclusive of CIH Registration fee)

More Information

What You Study:

The present course programme contains a total of twelve modules; six modules are covered in each half of the course. The teaching programme adopts a holistic and systemic approach so that modules are taught to show the inter-dependence of the subject areas. It is anticipated that candidates will complete the Diploma over 2 years

First year of the course

These modules, in alphabetical order, are as follows:

  • Delivery of housing services;
  • Housing demand, need and supply;
  • Housing policy;
  • Managing people.

These four modules are mandatory and students must also choose a specialist topic that consists of two modules from the following list:

  • Managing neighbourhoods;
  • Planning and development; and
  • Supporting independent living.

Students completing the first six modules are awarded the Level 4 Certificate in Housing Practice. Students can then continue into the second half of the programme.

Second year of the course

The six core modules in this half of the course are:

  • Equality and diversity in housing;
  • Housing law;
  • Housing economics and finance;
  • Partnership working in housing;
  • Professional practice skills for housing; and
  • Research skills for housing.
After The Course:

Following completion of all twelve modules, students will achieve the Chartered Institute of Housing, Level 4 Diploma in Housing Practice and entitled to graduate as part of the City of Glasgow College graduation ceremony.

Dates:

Course starts on 18th April 2013 and runs for 36 weeks on a Thursday from 2pm - 6pm.
