HNC Creative Industries: Professional Writing Skills

Overview

Do you aspire to a career as a professional writer? This course hones the skills of budding writers in many fields. We cover scripting for film, TV and radio as well as well as short story writing and poetry. Previous students on this course have had scripts filmed and novels published . Many work as writing tutors and editors while others have gone on to do complete degree and postgraduate courses.

• One Higher in English or appropriate group of units (e.g. Literature 1, Communication 4).
• Mature students without formal qualifications but with a proven interest in writing in terms of work experience or folio may enter at the discretion of the course leader.

More Information

The subjects you’ll study are: Creative Industries: An Introduction, Correcting Creative Text, Creative Writing for Vocational Purposes, Generating and Pitching Ideas, Literature: Close Reading Skills, Creative Project, Scripting for Television, Scripting for Radio and a Graded Unit.

Career

Creative Writing, Freelance Writing, Journalism, Script Editing, Scriptwriting, Broadcasting. Previous students have also found work in publishing, script tutoring, ghost writing, and speech writing.

Continuing Study

BA and MA degree courses in English, Journalism, Film Scripting, Creative Writing and Humanities.

One year, starting in August.
