Designed for people who have some experience of equitation and horse care, this one year course is an ideal introduction for school leavers wishing to pursue a career working with horses. Kingston Maurward College has excellent facilities and well qualified staff which combine to develop your knowledge and skills, equipping you for a rewarding career in the equine industry.

As a British Horse Society examination centre, we encourage students to take relevant exams and course content is applicable to the BHS exam system. Additional costs apply and applications should be made direct to the BHS.

Course Content
- Horse preparation and presentation
- Introduction to horse care
- Introduction to biology
- Horse industry and organisations
- Horse handling and exercise
Work related experience in the horse industry plus the opportunity to ride and undertake British Riding Clubs progressive riding tests
Level 2 Certificate in Safe Working in the Equine Industry
4 days a week for 34 weeks. Lectures and practical sessions at Kingston Maurward plus work experience on our yard. Guest speakers and visits to a variety of equine establishments.
Where possible, trips to Badminton Horse Trials, Olympia, may be arranged (additional cost involved).
Days - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grades E or above including Maths, English, Science and one other subject, plus commitment to succeed.
Additional Qualifications
- BHS Riding and Road Safety Test.
- Opportunity to sit additional BHS exams.
Progression/Employment
Employment within the equine industry, either working directly with horses or in an ancillary industry.
Progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management on completion of the course at Distinction level.
