Bookbinding and repair workshops - mixed ability

A practical workshop course where you can learn to complete book construction and repair techniques.

Additional costs may be incurred for the materials used during the course.

Learner & Entry Requirements:
No experience necessary, just an interest in the subject. Those with experience are also catered for.

General & First Session:
If you have any of the following items, please bring them, but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Steel rule, cutting mat, sharp cutting tool, apron, pencil.

Course Aim & Objective:
To Introduce the basic skills, improve them, and use them constructively to repair or rebind books.

By the end of the course, you should be able to understand the basic construction of books, and how to repair paper, leather and cloth bindings.

Assessment:
Continuous assessment. You may wish to repeat a process for full clarification.

Progression:
To be discussed during course.

Course Syllabus:
The workshop is run to allow you to complete the work that you wish, be it repairing an old cloth binding, an old family leather Bible or making a box to keep a book in.
