What's it all about? This Heating and Ventilating Apprenticeship is available to school leavers, those aged 16-18 and adults. Service & Maintenance Engineers monitor, repair and maintain all the building services equipment, heating, ventilation, lighting and air conditioning and refrigeration systems in occupid buildings such as offices, schools, hospitals, factories or shops. What skills and qualities do I need? A good understanding of mathematics, calculations and physics A careful, methodical and accurate approach to your work Organised What would I learn at College? How to install basic hot and cold heating, chilled water and fuel systems e.g. gas and oil How to maintain the above systems including the replacement of parts and checking for faults How to maintain various appliances and equipment used in the heating and ventilation industry e.g. boilers, fan coil units and air handling units The core gas safety training in preparation for the ACS commercial assessment to enable you to be gas safe registered How to work with electrical motors and understand electrical circuits How to find and rectify faults within the systems
