The Foundation Degree in Music and Sonic Arts (Music
Performance) is a forward looking, innovative course of study
designed to encapsulate the evolving demands of the music industry.
The course will inspire and challenge you to create professional
musical products and performances in a supportive and stimulating
educational atmosphere. A focus on both entrepreneurial, enterprise
and practical skills will prepare you for employment in the music
industry.
You will be treated as a practicing professional. Your learning
experience will involve taught lessons, practical group work,
academic and tutorial support and much opportunity to explore your
own interests within the range of modules on offer.
You will conceive, plan and execute projects and performances in a
wide range of settings, from music venues and studios to music
installations. Central to your experience will be the performance
and composition of music - playing, singing, writing songs, doing
gigs, creating scores for moving images and designing sound effects
for multimedia applications.
You will work with staff who have a wide-range of high level
experience in the music industry. They can share their contacts and
knowledge, arrange placements, whilst encouraging your interests
and supporting you in your university experience.
Year 1
- Music business and events management
- Live event technology
- Sound genetics, electroacoustics and audio manipulation
- Band work 1
- Session musician
- Contextualised composition and theory
Year 2
- Industry practice
- Music and multimedia applications (composition)
- Sonic arts product realisation
- Band work 2
Students will need between 120 and 240 UCAS points from:
- At least two 'A' Levels at 'A2', with one in a related subject area
- BTEC Diploma or Extended Diploma in a related subject area
- Advanced Diploma with relevant Principal or Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL)
- International Baccalaureate
Experienced mature applicants with 3 years' recent and relevant
professional experience or other relevant qualifications are
welcome to apply.
