What kind of students are you looking for and what grades will I need? We are looking for students who can show a real interest in the media industry either through a hobby or at school can come up with ideas and are willing to try new things. You will need 5 GCSE’s C and above including Maths and English. You can also apply if you have C and above in Level 2 Creative and Media or a Merit in BTEC National First Diploma in Media.What does the course involve?
Level 3 BTEC Diploma in RadioThis course will give you a comprehensive understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge needed to start a successful career in media production, with the focus on radio. Helping students to gain an insight into the exciting career opportunities available within the radio industry.
So what would I be doing on the course?
Delivered in the first-rate facilities at the Centre for the Arts, you’ll learn about running a radio station by actually running a radio station. You’ll work on scripting, recording, producing and delivering radio shows throughout the year, broadcast from the North Hertfordshire College own radio station. Through practical and hands-on experience, and through links with local radio stations you’ll learn all the skills you need to get a job in radio, covering a variety of programme styles factual production, news, drama and promotion.
We’ll also give you the know-how on how the radio and creative industries work so you’ll gain valuable business insight on areas such as Ofcom, contracts, working freelance, communication, finances and managing your own project from start to finish, as well as learning about the history and development of radio.
The skills you need to operate broadcast equipment will also be covered, including microphones, mixers, digital audio and music technology theory. Everything you need to produce high quality radio programmes!
What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Where do students go when the course is finished? Student’s progress to university on courses such as Film, TV and Radio Production, Journalism, Scriptwriting and animation. Students in the past who have wanted to go to university have been offered places, including top media universities like Bournemouth and Westminster. Students who have opted to work have gained experience in post-production, production and journalism.
