It is also suitable for mature students who are already working as personal trainers but do not possess a nationally recognised qualification. An approved gym qualification at Level 2 is a pre-requisite for this qualification. The course content covers anatomy and physiology, nutrition, programming and delivering personal training and health and safety. Sports conditioning, business and marketing and outdoor fitness are also included in the Personal Trainer Diploma.
The Programme Content
This course is ideal for people who wish to become Personal
Trainers and who want to work towards improving clients well being,
through the provision of a planned personal exercise programme on a
regular one-to-one or small group basis. It is also suitable for
mature students who are already working as personal trainers but do
not possess a nationally recognised qualification. Hence experience
of working within the fitness industry and additional industry
related qualifications are desirable.
The qualification provides background knowledge and skills for
advanced programming, instructing and coaching within the fitness
industry and is recognised on the Register of Exercise
Professionals (Rep's) at Level 3.
The course content covers anatomy and physiology, nutrition,
programming and delivering personal training and health and
safety.
Entry Requirements
For this course you will need to be at least 17 years old and
should have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above, including
Maths and English (equivalent qualifications and experience will be
considered for mature students). The pre-entry requirement is a
Level 2 Fitness Instructor. For students who do not have this
qualification, there may be an opportunity to study for Gym
Instructor whilst on the Personal Trainer course. You must be a
regular participant in fitness sessions, especially gym, as the
course is aimed at those who have experience in fitness.

Fees can be obtained on request for those over 19 years old.

Progression
On successful completion of the course you can apply for
employment as a Personal Trainer in a leisure centre or health
club, start your own business, or undertake further study in areas
such as; Ante and Post Natal, GP Referral or Cardiac
Rehabilitation.
This course is not suitable for applicants straight from school.
The course is a good progression for those who have completed the
Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness course, A Levels, a BTEC
National qualification or mature students looking for a career
change or professional development.
Length of Study
One year, three days per week.

This course starts in the 2013 / 2014 academic year.
