Child Protection and Safeguarding Young People and Children

It is a statutory requirement for anyone who works with children to update their knowledge of legislation and guidance and maintain the ability to act on concerns regarding the welfare and safety of children and young people. The government guidance suggests that refresher training should take place every three years.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• be clear about key role and responsibilities in relation to child protection
• understand the safeguarding agenda for health and social care and where child protection fits into it
• be aware of different types of abuse and possible signs and symptoms
• be clear about what to do when they are concerned about a child
• be clear about how to respond to a child who tells you about possible abuse

Who the course is aimed at:

Anyone whose work brings them into contact with children including employees and volunteers. This highly participative course will enable you and your staff to get a better understanding of what safeguarding is about the process involved in child protection. Delegates will then be able to see how these fit in relation to their role in your organisation.

• Understand abuse, who abuses and where abuse takes place
• Recognising abuse - possible signs and symptoms
• Different types of abuse
• Taking action - what to do when you are concerned about a child
• The common assessment framework - CAF
• Responding to a disclosure of abuse
• Local policy and procedure
