The course will support your potential progression onto the Level 3 qualification, while helping to build both your practical and theoretical understanding through a wide variety of art techniques.
What will I do on the course?
You will build on a range of artistic skills which will include the development of drawing and painting techniques, alongside other practices that may include printmaking, photography and 2D/3D projects. It will help you to improve your understanding of how you use Art and Design techniques to communicate your creative ideas, both through an appreciation of the theory and experimentation in art practices. The course is made up of a series of units delivered over the year which may include the opportunity to work on projects with local organisations such as charities and small businesses. You will need to gain 60 credits from the following areas: Six mandatory units:- Contextual references - 10 credits
- 2D visual communication - 5 credits
- 3D visual communication - 5 credits
- Using ideas to explore, develop and produce art & design - 10 credits
- Building an art & design portfolio - 5 credits
- Working in the art & design industry - 5 credits
- Two units which may include:
- Graphic design - 10 credits
- 3D - 10 credits
What qualifications do I need?
- 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, plus a portfolio of recent art work, OR
- Level 1 BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art & Design
- Adequate standard of English and Maths
- Mature learners with other qualifications and/or experience are also welcomed
- You should have a strong interest in developing your creative skills and demonstrate a commitment to succeed
