ESOL Pre Entry
If you speak little or no English, and you need to start from the basics, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Pre-entry is the right course for you.
You will learn the English you need to help you settle into life and work in the UK. You will practise speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary at a basic level to help you progress to higher levels.
You learn basic skills to help you in your everyday life and work. The skills help you with:
• listening to television/radio, instructions, telephone calls
• speaking in various functional situations, e.g. in shops, at the doctor’s, at school, at work
• reading notices, timetables, simple messages

You will learn the English you need to help you settle into life
and work in the UK. You will practise speaking, listening, reading,
writing, grammar and vocabulary at a basic level to help you
progress to higher levels.
You learn basic skills to help you in your everyday life and
work. The skills help you with:
• listening to television/radio, instructions, telephone calls
• speaking in various functional situations, e.g. in shops, at the
doctor’s, at school, at work
• reading notices, timetables, simple messages
• filling in forms and take notes
• spelling and punctuation rules
You work individually, in pairs and in groups in class, and use a
variety of resources including ICT (information communications
technology). You practise grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening,
reading and writing skills in various activities. You get a lot of
individual support from the teachers.
There is no exam. At the start of the course, you talk to your
tutor and create an individual learning plan. We review your
progress at the end of the course.
You improve your self confidence and self esteem by making first steps in speaking and writing in English.
You must complete an initial assessment and an interview to decide if the course is suitable for your needs. You must attend regularly and sit the exams.
You can progress to the next level ESOL courses to continue to improve your language skills.
