the communities we serve through socially and economically relevant
education and research. The MSc reflects this mission through its
underpinning and distinctive identity which focuses not only on
contemporary management
practice but also on community engagement and service. A unique
aspect of the course is the replacement of the traditional
dissertation with a student led project or event. You will design,
lead and reflect upon a project attached to a
community, charity, or third sector enterprise. The context chosen
for these projects reflects our staffs opinion that the
responsibility of our graduates as managers and leaders extends not
just to boardrooms and shareholders, but also to
communities and our wider society.
In a fast changing, global economy the MSc will equip you to assess
the wider interconnections between organisations and their local,
national and international contexts. You will build up a
solid understanding of key management practice and develop your
critical incite.
Our MSc is specifically designed for anyone who may be looking to
complement their non-business degree and have little or no prior
business background. Or you may have completed to general degree
level and are aiming to enhance your qualifications.
EXIT AWARDS: MSc (180 credits)/ PgDip (120 credits)/ PgCert (60
credits)
Delivery: At QMU
Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study single
modules in areas of interest
Duration: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 - 7 years
Start date: Septemebr and January
Application deadline: The deadline for all overseas applicants who
require a visa to study in the UK should apply no later than the
30th June 2013.
Teaching, learning and assessment: You will attend lectures and
seminars, work in groups and carry out independent learning. You
will be expected to participate in discussions, develop ideas and
engage with experiential learning. Assessment methods will include
management reports, essays, web- based discussions, reflections on
practice and group work with presentations. A central part of the
programme experience is the regularinvolvement of guest speakers,
who provide valuable insights into practice, contemporary trends
and thinking.
Teaching hours and attendance: Modules studied on-campus require
you toattend classes and carry out independent work.
Attendance requirements at QMU will depend
on which module you are studying and whether
you are full or part-time. In most instances the taught elements of
the full time programme occur on Tuesday, Wednesday (AM) and
Thursday. Part- time students have the option to select different
modules each year.
Links with industry/professional bodies: QMU is an approved centre
of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only professional
body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in
management and leadership excellence. As an approved centre, we are
working towards facilitating CMI professional qualifications within
our postgraduate awards. The MSc involves a number of guest
lecturers from industry and visits to industry across many
sectors.
