Methods of Assessment

Each unit is assessed by either teacher assessment of coursework or by external tests. Unit 1 and 5 are external examinations taken in January and May/June. Each unit whether assessed through coursework or externally assessed, will be individually graded A to E. An overall grade for the qualification, based on the scale A to E, will be determined on a points basis.

Each unit takes approximately a term to complete and includes a period of teaching and a period of student-led research and coursework writing, with teaching staff available for support and guidance.

Resources

Internet, text books which are reviewed and updated regularly, journals, statistical reference material, case studies and outside businesses/agencies. Visits to travel and tourism organisations form an important source of information for this course.

Progression

Advanced Level Travel and Tourism courses provide a sound basis for students wishing to go into Higher Education or into a career in the travel and tourism environment. Students have gone into tourism marketing, tourism planning/management, tour operations, travel agencies, human resource management.

Entry Requirements

Students are required to have 5 GCSE Grade C or above or the equivalent from four subject areas including Maths and English.

Charges

During the course a number of visits will be arranged which may require students to make contribution towards travelling costs. There may be a visit to an overseas destination during the course. Students are expected to purchase a memory stick, which can be purchased in the College Stationery Shop.
